Top Box - Enforcing Authority - The contact details of the local Enforcement Authority are placed in this box.  Essentially, the HSE inspects high risk sectors such as factories, chemical sites, construction activities, manufacturing, engineering and film production companies, while Environmental Health Officers who work for the Local Authority, inspect low risk sectors such as offices, shops, wholesale warehouses, and leisure activities.

If an employer is not sure of the name and address of the relevant Enforcement Authority they are advised to contact the HSE Info line Tel 08453450055 who will be happy to advise. Example for Employers in Westminster (offices, shops, retail):

Bottom Box - Employment Medical Advisory Service (EMAS)

The Employment Medical Advisory Service is staffed by specialist occupational health professionals, both doctors and nurses.  They are able to give expert advice on medical matters relating to work e.g. first aid requirements, assessing the effect of work on health of groups or individuals, supporting health promotion activities etc. This advice is available to employers, employees, trade unions, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), Local Authority environmental health officers and other health care professionals.
